What's in a name?

Yesterday we got a notice that the new management that took over our apartment complex (formerly known as the Glens at Mill Creek) is making some changes.

As a side note-new management was a breath of fresh air for reasons I will not lay out here.

The notice states that the new name of our complex will be "The Estates at Mill Creek." Ooooooo fancy shmancy you say-name shmame-as long as our rent doesn't increase you can call these grounds whatever you'd like!

In other news,
Weather, as it seems to be in many parts of the county, is hitting a record low-the temp with wind chill reported this morning on my way to work at a desperate dinky 5 degrees! (How's that for alliteration! 5 points for me). It's finals week and Shane and I are finishing up work while also transitioning and preparing for all the festivities to come! Sadly as the gifts continue to be wrapped and collected under our small tree, the proportion of gifts to tree just makes the whole little scene sad(but exciting nonetheless). Oh Charlie Brown Christmas Tree, we love you.

Due to the recent cold weather, I have tried to experiment with some comfort food to keep us warm.

Chicken Pot Pie was added to the list, and to make mine gluten free I took a page out of the Shepherd's Pie book and topped mine with mashed potatoes instead of flaky pastry crust.

The other day I also had a craving for chocolate-one of those cravings that haunt you all day long! Ultimately I gave in and made us a chocolate cake(not always smart for two people, who now still have half of it sitting on their counter).

Pictured here are cute little appetizer dishes I found at Target that work great for a chocolate cake fix.

Here are some Peppermint double chocolate brownies I made for a recent Coaching Christmas party at the Hardy's. It was gluten free too : )

Last Friday the Staff had their 2nd annual "Tacky Christmas Sweater Day." Shane and I, being new, figured we would join in the festivities, yet sadly were mistaken by most students as simply having no sense of style whatsoever-the joke was on us.

Nothing says Christmas like snowmen ice skating and DENIM

It's a Cosby Christmas at good ole 1005

Bittersweet by Shauna Nequist

In the Name of Jesus by Henri Nouwen

Everyone's a critic-but simply put-they are very different but both good reads.

Shane has recently started reading C.S. Lewis' Out of The Silent Planet (His space trilogy).
It's been a good change of pace and so far he is enjoying something new.

Bye for Now!

  1. So, I may or may not have the same or similar pie pan now...I bought a stoneware bakeware set that was on clearance at Target (with some christmas money)...mostly because of the pie pan :)
