Adjustments: Chiropractors in TJ Maxx

Though there will still be many adjustments to come as we settle into Georgia, here are a few highlights of some of the smaller adjustments and observations.

1. Whoever thought that transitioning from Jewel & Dominicks to Publix & Kroger would be so hard!! We were so spoiled in Chicago with the variety of food available in the grocery store.

2. Presets in my car=worthless. . . . . getting good use out of my scan button :)

3. There are Speed Bumps EVERYWHERE. . . there are 3 you must encounter simply to get out of our apartment complex-and you'll find them in every parking lot. . . of every business. . . without fail. Today the maintenance men were repainting all the ones here at the Glens. . THANK GOODNESS! I would have forgotten they were there : /

4. Pretty sure the black smoke monster from LOST lives outside of our window in the tree outside our balcony. . . Shane thinks it is just locusts. . . but clearly I have other ideas.

5. In Illinois it is not uncommon when one is making a right hand turn for one to encounter a "NO TURN ON RED" sign, well out here in good ole Buford GA things are a little different. If you happen to find yourself making that beloved little right hand turn this is what you will find: "KEEP MOVING" -most of these signs are followed with long yield lanes that ease you into traffic. My conclusion: Genius.

6. When Shane and I first moved in we noticed a light switch/nob looking thing in the bedroom. Shane asked "What do you think this is for?" I replied, " I don't know." But I HAD TO KNOW!!!! the next day as I was organizing in that very room I kept looking at that button over my shoulder, and like a small child I did the unthinkable! I pushed the button!!! To my dismay a loud alarm began to go off in the apartment, and I learned the hard way that we have a panic button in our bedroom :) Good thing we asked about our security system code when we moved in!!! :) (Needless to say Shane was slightly confused/startled from moving things in the other room)

-Southern Hospitality-

Take 1: Old lady on the Hwy gives Shane and I the finger, the first day in Buford.
Take 2: Day 2 in Buford, a man cusses at us as he walks in front of our car yelling that it was a "crosswalk" (It most definitely was NOT)
Take 3: Shane and I were perusing the local TJ Maxx and a local Chiropractor began chatting with us, he thought Shane looked familiar and asked us where we were from--when all was said and done we had a pleasant chat and he had taken down Shane's number as he planned to pass along our name to a friend in Marketing who was looking to hire.

CONCLUSION: You can tell a native Southerner from a mile away. It just so happens we live in an area that is growing tremendously and is extremely diverse. We've noticed people who move here don't just bring their Uhauls and boxes, they bring their attitudes too.

PRAYER REQUESTS

1. That Shane and I would find a Church we can call home and serve in.

*This Sunday we visited North Point Community Church in Alpharetta. The message was from Genesis 25. The pastor talked about how Esau traded his birthright for a bowl of stew. He then talked about how we let the appetites in our lives control us and convince us that if we satisfy them we will be happy when in reality we are compromising the future the Lord has for us. It was a good message.
** Also--It was dumping rain when we left church (which happens fairly often for 10-15 minute bursts) Women began bringing out boxes of brand new umbrellas and handing them out to everyone-and it is not a small church-crazy.

2. This weekend Shane will be in charge of speaking to 40 of his players that attend the F.C.A. camp that will run from Thursday - Saturday. The boys will play and train during the day and have chapel sessions at night. It is here that Shane will have the opportunity to Share God's hope and truth with not only his players but also the other coaches on Mountain View's staff. Pray that God's spirit not only moves in Shane's heart to give him the words to say, but that he would also move in the hearts of the coaches and players this weekend.

Mountain View Bears Update: Shane started coaching Tuesday of last week. He coaches practice in the mornings and then either has meetings or passing league at night on various afternoons and nights of the week. This week Shane and some of the other coaches are running the Youth Camp and coaching up the little ones. Shane came home tired today with a distinct rasp in his voice-The little guys definitely keep them on their toes at all times-but he's having fun out there. At the end of this week 40 of the players on the Bears will be off to a 3 day F.C.A. camp with regular season practices starting August 2nd. The program is new and there is a lot of work to be done, but Shane is excited to be a part of building a program from the ground up.

Here's a picture of him coaching up the boys at Youth Camp

  1. Wow, thanks for the update! Love to here about what is going on. Wish I could comment on it all. I do want to let you know that I hear awesome things about Publix and you can do real good with coupons there. Also, I think where you live you can double coupons and Kroger is a good place for that because they also have store coupons you can sstack with them. Anyway, just thought I would let you know in case you ever want to get into that sort of thing. I will praying for your requests. Love to you both!
