Now for "Caedmon's Call," I was greatly anticipating Shane's return from F.C.A. camp Saturday morning while simultaneously staring at some over ripe bananas in the fruit basket. I decided to make Shane some welcome home banana bread--I had made some our first week here, but decided to try a new recipe and put my own spin on it with some chocolate chips, nuts, and a brown sugar and walnut crust on top. It turned out great and has been adopted as the "Woodward Banana Bread" and can be the go-to from now on. Don't worry I haven't forgotten about Caedmon :) While making the bread I put some background music on to pass the time. Caedmon's Call's song "Faith My Eyes" came on, and though I tried fighting them back, I couldn't help but tear up at the bittersweet situation we find ourselves in. Far away from so many people that we love so much, yet choosing Faith to be our eyes as we seek to follow whatever path the Lord may have for us, bitter, or sweet, and everything in between.
Faith My Eyes
- Caedmon's Call
As I survey the ground for ants
Looking for a place to sit and read
I'm reminded of the streets of my hometown
How they're much like this concrete that's warm beneath my feet
And how I'm all wrapped up in my mother's face
With a touch of my father just up around the eyes
And the sound of my brother's laugh
But more wrapped up in what binds our ever distant lives
But if I must go
Things I trust will be better off without me
But I don't want to know
Life is better off a mystery
So keep'em coming these lines on the road
And keep me responsible be it a light or heavy load
And keep me guessing with these blessings in disguise
And I'll walk with grace my feet and faith my eyes
Hometown weather is on TV
I imagine the lives of the people living there
And I'm curious if they imagine me
Cause they just wanna leave; I wish that I could stay
And to visit places from my past
But only for an hour or so
Which is long enough to smell the air
To tell the tale and find the door
But I get turned around
I mistake some happiness for blessing
But I'm blessed as the poor
Still I judge success by how I'm dressing
So I'll sing a song of my hometown
I'll breathe the air and walk the streets
Maybe find a place to sit and read
And the ants are welcome company
And I'll walk with grace my feet and faith my eyes
And I'll walk with grace my feet and faith my eyes

Okay, so that lemonade looks so freakin' delicious right now.....mmmmmmm....I want the recipe. The banana bread looks yummo too. Is it gluten free? Also, sweet looking table. Do you not LOVE your Kitchen Aid??? I LOOOOOVE ours. I honestly don't know how I would bake without it :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. I know you have tons of things you want to blog about now, but sometime in the future you should post about what it's like being "gluten free" and being married to someone who isn't and how you make that work. We had some people over on Friday (they have a little guy that's 2 weeks older than G) and the guy's brother is GF and single. They think that's going to be a problem for his love life...haha...
Oh, I think we have the same dessert bowls/dishes. Are they from Crate & Barrel???
ReplyDeleteHey Roc!
ReplyDeleteI these dessert bowls were actually from BedBath&Beyond..but they are probably the same brand/bowls.
Also-I'll send you the lemonade recipe !!!
Aaaaand we actually met another couple last night at a Coaches & their families dinner where the wife is GFree and the husband is not--he was glad to have someone to "vent" to..haha but Shane is so good about it. I'll def. have post about that soon.
Love you!
exactly how many lemons did you have to squeeze...just out of curiosity...
ReplyDeleteHannah--don't be alarmed--that is not a pitcher of pure fresh squeezed lemon JUICE. . . that would be gross...I used about 9-10 in the recipe, it calls for more but anymore and I can't imagine it tasting any good. If you want the recipe let me know :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. how's work? Is the summertime craziness with groups coming in?
haha ok...i was gonna say...
ReplyDeleteheck yeah, send it over to me! i'm throwing a birthday bbq 4 justin and some friends in a few weeks and i might use it....
thankfully, this is the last full week of groups we have this week thankfully...the new few week we're only down to managing about 50 people which will be soooooo nice ha...i can't wait...i see the light at the end of the tunnel!
