Friday Night Lights

8/27/2010 wasn't only Shane and I's 2 month anniversary, it was also Mt. View's 1st Varsity football game, not only of the season, but 1st Varsity game all in all. (The picture above captures about a 1/3 of the home fans-couldn't get a great angle).

We played Central Gwinnett High School and braced ourselves for the unknown and what could have been a complete slaughter! With the scrimmage being canceled last week the coaches didn't have a good idea of what their boys would produce out on the field (especially when all they had been up against were the younger members of their own team).

We missed a lot of great opportunities to intercept balls and to finish some key drives to the goal line, but all in all, after the 1st quarter and some of the jitters being worked out, the boys adjusted their play and made what could have been a total slaughter into a legitimate football game. It was interesting to watch beginning til end, for a fan, and the boys definitely put up a fight. The final score was 24-17-Central Gwinnett.

Shane said some of the boys were crying after the game--this was great because it meant that these boys actually CARED and are forming an emotional connection to their team and this game which is essential for them to be successful!

It was great to see the school come out and support the team, and support them all week. During the week the Local Fox station was holding a poll to see who would be filmed Friday night for their Fox Channel 5 "High 5 Spot" of the week. It was between 5 different games that night in the county and the whole Mt. View community worked hard all week casting their votes and we Won!! I'm sure this had to have encouraged the boys, letting them all know we were backing them.

We've got a long season to go, coming up against some of the best teams in the county, and in GA high school football--and it has only just begun : )
